Meet the lovely Stevie. Stevie has not had a very good life (until now) but she has maintained her positive outlook nonetheless. We have so much to learn from these wonderful creatures. Stevie was abandoned in a field where she lived for at least five months. A young lady named her Stevie, fed her and tried her best to find a rescue that would help. Her efforts and those of her friends finally paid off. Stevie came to rescue.

Stevie is roughly 9 years (young) and initially she was frail – skinny, full of worms, covered in ticks, puncture wounds on her neck and shoulders and losing faith. But after some time in rescue – this stunning girl is becoming all she can be. We suspect she is an Australian Shepherd/border collie mix (with some teddy bear thrown in) and came into rescue at 36 pounds. She is steadily gaining weight and her goal is 44 lbs – her eyes and coat are starting to shine and her dignity is returning. With each passing  week – she climbs higher and higher and gets better and better. We have been watching her come alive and we are so in love with who she is. She adores a good pet behind the ears, a soft chin rub and will lie quietly and contently as she gets brushed. Her coat is starting to have that fabulous blue cast seen in well-loved and cared for black dogs. She is one beautiful girl with a perfect teddy bear face. She is a bit hard of hearing but that has improved significantly since she came into rescue – as her condition improves so do all her ailments. We have her dental scheduled and it will be covered by EnchantMutts – everyone needs a good polish!

She is a perfect companion – completely content doing whatever her people want to do… a walk around the block, a bit of sunning and gardening or just hanging out with a glass of wine and a good movie. She has no need to run marathons or do agility. She loves meeting new people and is a fabulous hostess – kind, generous, attentive and appreciative. Sometimes she will look softly at her foster and stare and you can see in her eyes she is so very grateful – she is incredibly sweet. She gets along great with the dogs in the house but doesn’t need other dogs to complete her life – only her people. She is housetrained and though there is a doggy door in her foster home and she goes in and out at night – she will usually walk to the sliders and give a bark to let you know she needs out – making sure you get your exercise! She will bask in the sun but mostly – she wants to just be with her family and will follow them about. No need for crating this girl as she does not chew or destroy anything and loves her doggy beds.

We love our seniors and have developed an economic health regiment that we think supports senior dogs well and are always happy to share (we insist on it!). It has done wonders with Stevie and we know she will only keep improving. We think she has years ahead of her to offer her forever family and we know there is a very special family out there looking for her. She deserves everything a good family who can offer her a loving home.

Stevie is spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, up to date on shots, microchipped, her blood work looks great and her smile radiates.  Stevie will not be adopted outside the state of New Mexico. If you think she might be the girl for you and are open to a senior teaching you what really matters… please complete our application and forward it to Kristi@enchantmutts.org.
