Zak

Zak is a beautiful one and a half year old sable Border Collie (BC). Mom is a purebred black/white BC and dad was able to leap tall buildings in a single bound (probably a BC type of guy).

Contact kristi@enchantmutts.org or call (505)980-7827 for more information. Adoption application and process can be found on our Adoption Process Page. Please submit the completed application to kristi@enchantmutts.org. Adoption fee is $150.00 and Zak will not be adopted out of state.

Zak is a very special guy and he is a TRUE gentle soul (complete with a mischievous sense of humor and the most expressive eyes!). Exceptionally bright and sensitive, Zak is all about pleasing his humans (and getting them to laugh!). He is extremely sweet and sees the bright side of everything - loves to learn and is apt to do things just for fun. Sometimes his foster mom thinks he reads her mind. Zak gets along great with other dogs and would enjoy a doggie playmate. But, his biggest joy is being where you are, and he sees his job in life as being by your side. He takes great joy in herding people when he can get away with it (we don’t recommend families with children under 7).

He adores toys (and needs plenty!) and often sleeps with them piled around him. At any time, if he can’t entice any doggie friends to play with him, he will bring all his toys to you, sitting and watching with each “gift” he brings you. If that’s not the one, he will try another until he chooses the right one to get you to play! He even knows the names of many. He knows all the basic commands and would love to learn more - he is a sponge!

Zak appears to be a normal, active, healthy pup but has been diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia (HD). Not a severe level and he does well with very few limitations. We know he gets uncomfortable when he really overdoes it, but he is not a quitter in any sense of the word. As he ages he will probably feel the HD more. BUT, thanks to some wonderful supporters, Zak will be undergoing surgeries to prevent future issues and pain due to this genetic disorder. With the surgeries, his prognosis is very good and he will be able to continue to live a normal life with his family – active and pain free! These surgeries are already paid in full (Zak’s Fund). You can read more about this on our Zak's Fund Page.

Zak was initially saved from a neglect situation with his mom and two siblings, a bag of bones, shy, no medical care, unsure, frightened and filled with worms. He has overcome all that and is now a remarkable pup just waiting for his special home.

Zak will need a family that is familiar with working dogs, is active, includes their pets in family activities and who have time to spend with this special boy. Even with his HD, Zak will require adequate exercise on a daily basis. Another canine companion or a stay or work at home person is preferred. Zak is house-trained, crate-trained, UTD on shots, neutered, micro-chipped, heartworm tested (negative) and on preventative.
